About OnBite
OnBite is a species-first fishing information hub. Instead of one generic "best time to fish" answer, every page is built around a specific game fish: where it lives, when it bites, how to catch it, and what the conditions look like right now at your spot.
What's here
- Species profiles for 145 game fish across North America, Europe, the Mediterranean, Australia and New Zealand, Asia, South and Central America, Africa and the open ocean — with the most-targeted US species covered in the most depth.
- Regions and waters — the lakes, rivers, bays and offshore grounds anglers actually fish, with the species that live in each.
- The bite forecast — a 0–100 score for any species and location, computed from live weather, barometric pressure, wind, cloud, moon phase and solunar timing, with the best windows over the next three days.
- On the Bite — a live worldwide catch map posted by anglers.
- SoCal fish counts — daily sportboat dock totals from eight Southern California landings, updated every night.
Where the data comes from
Weather, pressure, wind and sea-surface temperature come from Open-Meteo. Map tiles come from OpenFreeMap, built on OpenStreetMap data. Moon phase and solunar periods are calculated on the page. Fish counts are compiled from the landings' published dock totals. Species photos are Creative Commons licensed from Wikimedia Commons and credited on each page. Records cite the International Game Fish Association.
